What You Can Do

Donate to your favourite charity

But make sure that it’s a registered charity! All charities in Canada are regulated by the Charities Directorate of the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). The CRA offers an excellent “Information for donors” section; check the “Avoiding fraud” page carefully!

Research charities

Ensure that any donation that you make is effective, enduring, and meaningful.  You want to have confidence that your charitable donation reaches the beneficiaries, that your donation provides long term benefits, and that you are making a significant difference to those in need. The CRA’s charity listing is the obvious starting point, and the following organizations can provide additional information:

Consider Viaduct Foundation

As a private foundation, we gift donations to other registered Canadian charities. We have no overhead; 100% of your donation goes to our selected donees (or to our endowment fund if donations are a specified gift). We do all the research into the charities, and even specific projects, that we support. If you agree with our purpose of advancing education in the world’s least developed countries, then we can issue a Canadian tax receipt for your donation.

Do something

Even if it’s something small, doing something is always better than doing nothing.

We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But if that drop was not in the ocean, I think the ocean would be less because of that missing drop. I do not agree with the big way of doing things.”
